Job Description Magnet is a browser extension designed to help job seekers save and organize job descriptions from websites for their personal job search. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the extension is used. This helps us improve the product and fix issues. Google Analytics collects:

• Anonymous usage data (e.g., which features are used, how often)
• General location (country/region level, not precise)
• Device and browser information
• Crash and error reports

What Google Analytics does NOT collect:

• Your captured job descriptions or URLs
• Personal identifying information
• The content of pages you visit

Google Analytics data is processed by Google under their Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Data We Collect

We collect anonymous analytics data only (see Analytics section above). We do not collect any personal information, job descriptions, or browsing history.

Data Stored Locally

The extension stores the following data locally on your device only using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local):

Important: This data never leaves your device. It is not synced to other devices, not backed up to any cloud service, and not accessible to us or any third party.

Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following permissions:

Host Permissions ("Access to all websites")

The extension needs to run on any website because job postings appear on thousands of different domains:

• Job boards (LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, etc.)
• Applicant tracking systems (Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, etc.)
• Company career pages (any company's website)

What we do with this access: We only read the visible page content to extract job descriptions when you click the capture button. We never access your login credentials, personal accounts, or any data you haven't explicitly chosen to capture.

Storage Permission

Used to save your captured jobs locally on your device. This data never leaves your browser.

Active Tab & Scripting

Required to display the floating capture button and read job descriptions from the current page.

What We Don't Do

Your Control

You have complete control over your data:

• Delete individual jobs: Click the X next to any saved job
• Clear all jobs: Use the "Clear All Jobs" button
• Clear all data: Settings > Clear All Data removes everything
• Uninstall: Removing the extension deletes all stored data
• Hide the icon: Toggle the floating magnet on/off in settings

Data Security

Your data is protected by Chrome's built-in security model. The chrome.storage.local API ensures that:

• Data is sandboxed to this extension only
• Other extensions cannot access your saved jobs
• Websites cannot access your stored data
• Data is encrypted at rest by your operating system

Children's Privacy

This extension is intended for adult job seekers. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Since we don't collect any data at all, this is not applicable.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be communicated through the extension's update notes.
